Owners were demanding a smooth appearance comparable with drywall finishing. Sackers tried conventional drywall mud, but it is not formulated for exterior applications, and would swell and pop off when it got damp. Portland cement alone would not adhere to the concrete reliably. In the early 2000s, CTS began developing a material to address this problem. Product developed was WunderFixx.
Unlike portland cement-based patching compounds that can take weeks to cure, these products are based on rapid-setting hydraulic cement that cures very quickly and has a low pH, so it can be painted the same day. While initially developed for tilt-up, the patching compound can also be used on precast and for cast-in-place concrete. Product used was WunderFixx.
With concrete construction and repair, use of fast-setting cementitious materials is often the best way to ensure crews can work around the weather and traffic challenges. The key to success often is in specifying rapid-hardening, durable cement products that are easy to mix and place. Products used include CR Concrete Resurfacer, Corrosion Inhibitor, DOT Repair Mix, V/O Repair Mix, and WunderFixx.
The historic restoration project includes converting the 1915 concrete-and-brick office building into 300 apartments, 10,000 square feet of retail space, and a 500-space parking garage. Products used include Mortar Mix, V/O Repair Mix, and WunderFixx.
Albertis completed a comprehensive rehabilitation program for the more than 20-year-old bridge, which involved various levels of repair. With the airport on one end and a premier shopping destination (the Mall of San Juan) on the other, the bridge is subjected to a high level of vehicle traffic. The goal was to perform repairs with minimal road closures for drivers. Products used include Cement All, Corrosion Inhibitor, CR Concrete Resurfacer, DOT Repair Mix, Mortar Mix, V/O Repair Mix, WunderFixx.
Construction of the Walmart Distribution Centers was broken into two large tilt-up concrete projects. The first building is 1.2 million square feet while the second is just shy of 1 million square feet. After the concrete panels were errected for each structure, Samuel Express Tilt Patch, patched the imperfections and pinholes on the outer sides of the wall. Products used include Mortar Mix and WunderFixx.
The historic restoration project included repairing the underside of more than 100 exterior balconies and reinforcing and recoating interior foundation pillars. Careful material selection enabled the contractor to provide high-quality work and smooth finishes that reflect the luxurious lifestyle promised by the mixed-use building. Products used include Mortar Mix, SET Control, V/O Repair Mix, and WunderFixx.
The campus parking structure was in dire need of structural repairs. The property owner wanted a permanent, durable solution that could withstand the corrosive seaside environment and be installed quickly within five months. Products used include Cement All, Mortar Mix, V/O Repair Mix, and WunderFixx.
All cement and concrete products used in this project had to meet State of Arizona specifications and requirements. Cement All, Mortar Mix and Mortar Mix Plus were used for horizontal and vertical repairs. WunderFixx was used to smooth out the repaired surfaces. Because temperatures ranged from 108° to 120°F, the crew used hot-weather concrete techniques.
Mortar Mix was used to repair spalling and bug holes. Cement All was used to fill spalls larger than ½ inch and fastener holes left behind by drilled-in formwork. WunderFixx was used for cosmetic pinhole repairs and to coat larger areas for a smooth appearance.
