V/O Repair Mix

Damaged concrete, even in vertical or overhead locations, can be dealt with quickly and easily using V/O Repair Mix. V/O Repair Mix is a high performance, polymer-modified blend of Rapid Set® Cement with additives and specially graded fine aggregates, so it bonds well with existing concrete and is freeze/thaw and corrosion resistant. Combine the mix with water to produce a high quality repair material that is ideal where rapid strength gain, high durability, and low shrinkage are desired.

Use V/O Repair Mix in thicknesses from ½ inch to 6 inches (1.2 to 15.2 cm) for general concrete repair, resurfacing, vertical and overhead applications and mortar beds. It can be applied full-depth with a single coat. V/O REPAIR sets in 30 minutes and is ready for loading in 2 hours. It does not need to be wet cured in most applications, because it uses a cutting-edge self-curing technology (SCT). The mix is tinted gray to match most portland concrete surfaces, and can be used indoors or outdoors. One 50-lb bag yields approximately 0.41 cubic feet.

Standard Practices

Q:  What is Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix?

A:  Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix is a high performance, polymer-modified, fiber-reinforced, blend of  Cement with additives and specially graded fine aggregate.  Combine Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix with water to produce a high quality repair material ideal for areas where rapid strength gain, high durability, and low shrinkage are desired.

Q:  What are common applications for Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix?

A:  Use Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix for general concrete repair, including vertical and/or overhead applications, or small spot repairs.

Q:  What color does Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix cure into?

A:  Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix cures to a light grey color that matches most Portland cement concrete.

Q:  Is this a modified Portland cement product?

A:  No, the high performance properties are based on Rapid Set® Cement technology.

Q:  Is a bonding agent necessary?

A:  Bonding agents are not required.  Proper surface preparation is the main component in achieving a good bond. If bonding agents are desired, they should be used as a supplement to good surface preparation, not as a substitute.

Q:  Does Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix contain corrosion inhibitor?

A:  Yes, Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix has a commercially-used integral corrosion inhibitor to increase protection of embedded reinforcement.

Q:  Can I blend other products with Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix?

A:  Blending with other products may give unpredictable results and is not recommended. The use of Rapid Set-approved additives and various colors are acceptable.

Q:  How thick can I apply this product?

A:  Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix can be applied in thicknesses from 1/32” to 2” (0.1 to 5.1 cm).  For vertical applications and small spot repairs, thicknesses up to 6” (15.2 cm) are acceptable.

Q:  How much do I need?

A:  One bag of Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix yields approximately 0.37 cubic feet. That is one square foot, 4.5 inches deep.

Q:  How do I prepare the surface?

A:  Surface must be clean, sound, and free of oil, curing compound, dust, mastic, and/or other bond-breakers.  Surface shall be prepared to a minimum profile of ICRI CSP 3.  Mechanically abrade surface and remove all unsound material.  Apply Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix to a thoroughly saturated surface with no standing water.

Q:  How do I mix it?

A:  Just add water. The use of a mechanical mixer such as a mortar mixer or drill-mounted mixer is recommended. To maximize working time, organize work so that all people and equipment are in place before mixing.

Q:  How do I place and finish it?

A:  Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix may be placed using traditional methods.  Place and consolidated quickly to allow for maximum finishing time.  Do not wait for bleed water; apply final finish as soon as possible. Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix may be troweled, floated, shaved, or broom finished.  Do not install on frozen surfaces.

Q:  How do I cure Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix?

A:  Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix does not require water curing or curing compound under moderate conditions at 70°F (21°C).  The fibers increase the tensile strength of the repair mortar, reducing or preventing any adverse effects due to drying and plastic shrinkage.  However, in excessively dry, windy, or hot conditions, mist with water to maintain a continuously wet surface until the product has achieved sufficient strength.

Q:  What is the shelf life?

A:  When stored in a dry location, out of direct sunlight, and in an undamaged package, Rapid Set® V/O Repair Mix has a shelf life of 12 months.
