GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – Rapid Set® WP Mortar HP speeds and simplifies the process of protecting substrates from moisture and water intrusion. Unlike conventional products, WP Mortar HP is a single-component coating. That makes it easy to mix (just add water) and apply, saving contractors and project owners time and money on waterproofing jobs large and small.
Durable in multiple environments, WP Mortar HP can be used to waterproof interior and exterior concrete, masonry, and brick surfaces above- and below-grade. It’s an ideal choice for basements and foundations as well as retaining walls, tilt-up concrete, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete. At over 200 psi (1.4 MPa), the product provides excellent adhesion to substrates. It’s a vapor-permeable material that allows structures to breathe to prevent moisture buildup.
The polymer-modified coating also sets fast (in three hours). Substrates can resist hydrostatic pressures of up to 20 psi after two coats in three days. In comparison, most competitive products require at least five to seven days before the substrate can handle such hydrostatic pressures.
WP Mortar HP reaches more than 2500 psi (17.2 MPa) compressive strength in 24 hours. This fast-setting capability is due to its specialized blend of Rapid Set® hydraulic cement, high-performance additives, and quality aggregates. The key ingredient, Rapid Set® Cement, is made with advanced rapid-hardening technology that can replace ordinary portland cement (OPC) in time-critical projects requiring fast return to service, high strength, and increased durability. Engineered for low shrinkage and superior resistance to chemical attack, Rapid Set® maximizes service life and minimizes maintenance.
Another advantage is Rapid Set®’s ability to reduce a project’s carbon footprint and environmental impact, which can help contribute to LEED credits. Producing Rapid Set® emits far less carbon dioxide than producing portland cement.
Apply WP Mortar HP by trowel, masonry brush, and even paint roller in temperatures ranging from 45° F to 90° F (7° C to 32° C). It has a working time of 30 minutes and cures to a concrete gray color. (Here’s a datasheet for more information.)
