Rapid Set

ALL TILE MORTAR

Multi-Purpose, Polymer-Modified Tile Setting Mortar
PRODUCT DATASHEET

DESCRIPTION: Rapid Set® ALL TILE MORTAR is a high-performance, polymer-modified, all-purpose, tile setting mortar. ALL TILE MORTAR is specifically formulated to provide a long open time and high bond strength, for use in both thin and medium bed applications. ALL TILE MORTAR can be used in both vertical and horizontal tile setting applications. On horizontal applications, ALL TILE MORTAR can be applied up to 3/4" (1.9 cm) thick and be used to set large format tiles.

USES: Use ALL TILE MORTAR over concrete, plywood, lightweight concrete or gypsum surfaces for standard wall and floor installations of mosaic, ceramic, porcelain, quarry, glass, veneer, cement, and natural stone tiles (slate, travertine, marble, limestone, and granite). Use where a tile setting mortar meeting ANSI A118.4or A118.11 is required.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES: Use ALL TILE MORTAR to reduce your carbon footprint and lower your environmental impact. Production of Rapid Set cement emits far less CO2 than portland cement. Contact your CTS representative for EPD, LEED values and other sustainability information.

SURFACE PREPARATION: Surfaces must be clean, sound and free from any materials that may inhibit bond, such as oil, curing compound, acid, dirt and loose debris. It is recommended that all unsound material be removed from the surface through conventional methods. Concrete surfaces must be mechanically abraded to achieve optimal bond. An ICRI CSP profile of 2 is recommended. Gypsum-based and lightweight underlayments must have a minimum of 2000 psi (14 MPa) compressive strength. All underlayments must be dry and properly cured to manufacturer’s recommendations for permanent, non-moisture permeable coverings. All surfaces must meet current ANSI standards for deflection.

MIXING: ALL TILE MORTAR may be mixed using 6 to 7 quarts (5.6 L to 6.6 L) of potable water per 50-lb (22.7 kg) bag based on the application. The use of a low-speed drill mixer, less than 600 RPM, is recommended to achieve a smooth, creamy, paste-like consistency. Organize work so that all personnel and equipment are in place before mixing. Place the desired quantity of mix water into the mixing container and add ALL TILE MORTAR while the mixer is running. Mix until a lump free, uniform consistency is achieved (usually 2 to 3 minutes).

APPLICATION: ALL TILE MORTAR can be applied in any traditional method used to apply tile setting products. Installation of product must conform to ANSI A108.5 guidelines. Organize work so that all personnel and equipment are ready before application. Use a properly sized notch trowel to obtain adequate coverage under tiles. For the best possible bond, a skim coat of mortar must be worked into the substrate surface using the flat side of a notch trowel. To bond tile to the substrate surface, apply a uniform bed of ALL TILE MORTAR to the substrate using the selected notch trowel and comb the material in one direction at a 45° angle. Additional material needs to be applied if notches are not complete. Once notches are completed, tile can be firmly pressed in a perpendicular motion across mortar ridges with a back and forth movement. The mortar ridges will collapse upon pressure allowing for maximum coverage. Back-buttering is highly recommended for all tile installations. Once placed, tile can be adjusted with a beating block and rubber mallet. Do not install on frozen surfaces. ALL TILE MORTAR may be applied in temperatures ranging from 45°F to 90°F (7.2°C to 32°C).

CURING: Curing of ALL TILE MORTAR is affected by ambient and substrate temperatures and humidity. ALL TILE MORTAR must be allowed to cure for a minimum of 5 hours prior to light traffic and/or grouting under moderate conditions at 70°F (21°C).

COLD WEATHER: Environmental and material temperatures below 70°F (21°C) may delay setting time and reduce the rate of strength gain. Lower temperatures will have a more pronounced effect. Thinner sections will be more significantly affected. To compensate for cold temperatures, keep material warm and use heated mix water.

WARM WEATHER: Environmental and material temperatures above 70°F (21°C) may speed setting time and increase the rate of strength gain. Higher temperatures will have a more pronounced effect. To compensate for warm temperatures, keep material cool and use chilled mix water.

YIELD & PACKAGING: ALL TILE MORTAR is available in 50-lb (22.7 kg) bags. One 50-lb (22.7 kg) bag of ALL TILE MORTAR will provide the following coverages:

USER RESPONSIBILITY: ALL TILE MORTAR must never be used over expansion joints and cold joints as described in ANSI A108.01. Before using CTS products, read current technical data sheets, bulletins, product labels and safety data sheets at www.CTScement.com. It is the user’s responsibility to review instructions and warnings for any CTS products prior to use.

WARNING: DO NOT BREATHE DUST. AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND EYES. Use material in well-ventilated areas only. Exposure to cement dust may irritate eyes, nose, throat, and the upper respiratory system/lungs. Silica exposure by inhalation may result in the development of lung injuries and pulmonary diseases, including silicosis and lung cancer. Seek medical treatment if you experience difficulty breathing while using this product. The use of a NIOSH/MSHA-approved respirator (P-, N- or R-95) is recommended to minimize inhalation of cement dust. Eat and drink only in dust-free areas to avoid ingesting cement dust. Skin contact with dry material or wet mixtures may result in bodily injury ranging from moderate irritation and thickening/cracking of skin to severe skin damage from chemical burns. If irritation or burning occurs, seek medical treatment. Protect eyes with goggles or safety glasses with side shields. Cover skin with protective clothing. Use chemical resistant gloves and waterproof boots. In case of skin contact with cement dust, immediately wash off dust with soap and water to avoid skin damage. In case of skin contact with wet cement, wash exposed skin areas with cold running water as soon as possible. In case of eye contact with cement dust, flush immediately and repeatedly with clean water, and consult a physician. If wet cement splashes into eyes, rinse eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and go to the hospital for further treatment.
