DESCRIPTION: Rapid Set® HIGH-BOND PRIMER is a ready-to-use primer that enhances the adhesion of Rapid Set self-leveling underlayments to clean, profiled or unprofiled, and porous or non-porous substrates. Rapid Set HIGH-BOND PRIMER reduces substrate outgassing that can cause pinholes in the underlayment.

SURFACE PREPARATION: Rapid Set HIGH-BOND PRIMER is intended for use on porous and non-porous concrete, quarry tile, glass tile, porcelain and ceramic tiles with smooth or glazed surfaces, dimensionally stable plywood, and epoxy. Surface must be dry, clean, sound, and free of oil, paint, curing compounds, dust, mastic, and other bond breakers. Do not use sweeping compounds. Existing finishes must be securely bonded to the substrate. Concrete surfaces must be adequately cured and free from efflorescence, with no exposure to hydrostatic pressure. Plywood flooring must meet all building code requirements and deflection specifications.

MIXING & APPLICATION: The substrate surface temperature must be 5°F (2.5°C) above the dew point and rising to avoid condensation on the surface while drying. Shake well or mix at a low speed with a drill and paint mixer to ensure the primer is thoroughly mixed and there is no sediment at the container bottom. Apply primer to the substrate with a 3/8" or 1/2" nap paint roller. Spread evenly to avoid puddles and to thoroughly coat the surface. Maintain material, surface, and ambient temperatures between 50°F (10°C) and 95°F (32°C). For excessively porous or absorbent concrete surfaces, multiple coats may be necessary. Prime the surface with an initial application of diluted primer at a ratio of 1 part water to 1 part primer. Allow to dry. Repeat as necessary until the final coat of primer stays wet for at least 20 minutes. Lower temperatures and/ or higher humidity will extend drying time. Apply Rapid Set underlayment after the primer is dry (usually 1 to 3 hours) and within 48 hours of the final primer coat. If more than 48 hours have elapsed, reapply primer.

COVERAGE & PACKAGING: Rapid Set HIGH-BOND PRIMER is available in 1-gallon (3.8 L) pails or 5-gallon (18.9 L) buckets. The coverage is 300–500 ft2 (28–46 m2) per gallon. The coverage rate will vary due to the porosity and surface profile of the substrate.

SHELF LIFE: Rapid Set HIGH-BOND PRIMER has a shelf life of 12 months when stored properly in a dry location, protected from moisture, out of direct sunlight, and in an undamaged package. Do not allow material to freeze.

Rapid Set HIGH-BOND PRIMER is not for use in exterior or other wet environments, on vertical or overhead surfaces, or on substrates that have a Moisture Vapor Emission Rate greater than 5 lbs. per 1000 ft2 (92.9 m2) in 24 hours or relative humidity greater than 79%. It may be used on concrete slabs-on-ground with an intact moisture vapor barrier, provided all moisture requirements are met. The quality and performance of the installation depend on the installer’s professional judgment and proper use of the product. Recommendations provided are based on laboratory testing and field experience and are intended solely as general guidance. Site condition, methods of application, and workmanship may impact adhesion. (CTS) warrants its materials to be of good quality and, at its option, will replace or refund the purchase price of any material proven to be defective within one (1) year from date of purchase. The above remedies shall be the limit of CTS’ responsibility. Except for the foregoing, all warranties expressed or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are excluded. CTS shall not be liable for any consequential, incidental, or special damages arising directly or indirectly from the use of the materials.

Dispose of container and primer residue in accordance with federal, state and local waste disposal regulations. Do not flush primer down drains, sewers or waterways.
