As part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 60-year-old Windy Run Bridge, the National Park Service temporarily reduced the number of lanes on the George Washington Memorial Parkway beginning Mon., July 30.

The work is part of a larger rehabilitation effort proposed for the eight-mile section of the George Washington Parkway between the Spout Run Parkway and the Capital Beltway. This bridge deck repair was planned for summer when the traffic volume on the George Washington Memorial Parkway is lighter.

Heartland Concrete, working with Martins Construction, used Rapid Set® Cement to create latex-modified concrete (LMC). Rapid Set® Latex-Modified Concrete (RSLMC) is used when low chloride ion permeability, corrosion resistance, and fast strength gain are desired. It is very durable and achieved the specified 2,500 psi in three hours. The 240 cubic yards were mixed in a volumetric mixer and finished with a Bidwell screed, then covered with wet burlap and plastic.
