With concrete construction and repair, use of fast-setting cementitious materials is often the best way to ensure crews can work around the weather and traffic challenges. The key to success often is in specifying rapid-hardening, durable cement products that are easy to mix and place. Products used include CR Concrete Resurfacer, Corrosion Inhibitor, DOT Repair Mix, V/O Repair Mix, and WunderFixx.
The Puerto Rico International Airport had a yearlong maintenance program to repair the runways without having to shut them down. The maintenance crew successfully performed partial-depth concrete slab and joint repairs, and returned those repaired portions of runway back to service during a two-hour window to not disrupt scheduled flights. Products used include DOT Repair Mix, FLOW Control, and SET Control.
Work was able to be performed overnight and lanes reopened to traffic by morning. 12,000 spall repairs and dowel bar retrofits were completed using DOT Repair Mix.
Fast-setting cement products were used for partial-depth repairs, repairing the lateral barriers, and anchoring and the new pipes for the new floor drains. Work took place in temperatures soaring above 90° degrees Fahrenheit. Products used were DOT Repair Mix, V/O Repair Mix, WunderFixx, Cement All, CR Concrete Resurfacer, and Corrosion Inhibitor.
DOT Repair Mix was used to repair the bridge joints on the Fremont Bridge. The repairs took place over different seasons where multiple weather conditions occurred. The bridge was able to reopen to traffic on time.
